One of our favorite new TV kids this season is Young Bruce Wayne on Fox’s Gotham. As we watch him grow into the Caped Crusader, eventually saving lives, battling criminals, and making billions all while nursing a cape fetish, we wondered what toys he would need to start down the path towards his destiny. We put together a holiday gift guide to help him go from boy to bat.
Yo-Yo: You have to learn to walk before you can run. And you have to yo-yo before you can throw a batarang through the face of a delinquent.
Twister: This classic game emphasizes coordination, balance, and flexibility. It also might be the only time Young Bruce gets to brush up against a girl. Batman’s greatest enemy is his own crushing loneliness.
Slinky: Who doesn’t love a slinky? Its perpetual, rhythmic movement is visually cool and also a metaphor for the continual, unyielding march of crime he will fight but never eliminate.
Etch-A-Sketch: This is a great toy for building basic motor skills, but doubles as a form of visual therapy when Young Bruce can’t verbalize the trauma he’s witnessed and played a part in.
Operation: This one is for Alfred. He has only a few years to become a master.
