When the weather outside is frightful, we hear a fire can be so delightful. Combat cabin fever by throwing an indoor glamping party. Spend an afternoon doing some DIY prep for a casual evening for little ones or send them to bed early and go all out for a fun spin on a formal night with other big kids. We pulled together a list of the essentials you’ll need:
Bring the woods home:
Decorate the ceiling with twinkling holiday lights for a starry night experience. Light some of our favorite woodsy candles from Diptyque like Myrrhe, Santal, or Ambre or buy a set of cinnamon pinecones.
Pitch your tent:
If you don’t have the space to pitch an actual tent, you can set up a children’s tent or teepee from Land of Nod in the living room. In a pinch, you can throw sheets over dining room chairs. Instead of a traditional sleeping bag, set out cozy throws and big pillows at the opening of the tent so guests know they are invited to relax.
Set the mess table:
Wrap your dining table in a Classic Gingham Tablecloth Roll and add pine accents. Pay homage to vintage kerosene lanterns with a modern version that uses a tea light. Serve camp favorites like chili, baked beans, and sausages buffet style. For a healthy dose of veggies, offer corn on the cob or carrot and celery sticks. Save the fancy china for another night and use pie tins as plates.
Settle in for the night:
Instead of making s’mores, serve a delicious S’More Pie from The Kitchn and have a spooky reading of Roald Dahl’s Book of Ghost Stories. After the kids go to bed, watch a different set of stars by turning on Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom and cozy up with some (spiked) Champurrado or Homemade Apple Cider from Tastemade.
